Columbia sat up in her king size bed with her arms wrapped around her knees and tears rolling down her face. She was starting to begin to think that she was losing her fucking mind, Since that first creepy phone message, she had received at least one a day, similar to each other, but none of them were the same. The last one had just come through about three minutes ago. She wanted to call Icon or Benzino, but she was sure that when she told them what she thought the calls were, they would both be ready to admit her for a psychological evaluation. She slowly climbed out of the bed and walked over to the caller ID again to make sure her mind wasn’t playing tricks on her. The light was blinking signaling an incoming call, but the screen was totally blank. In fact every time one of those calls came in from God knows where, the screen always remained blank. But that didn’t make an sense at all. She even called the phone company as wee as used *69 in an attempt to trace the orgin of the call. But as far as the phone company’s records, no call ad registered coming through the line. This last call had made the hairs on the back of her neck stand on end.

“Uhhhn-issss-uhhh. Reeee-pennnnt. Yurrrrr Sinnnnssszz!” said the eerie voice on the other end of the line.

The voice was always the same, somewhat familiar, and the most recent calls seemed to have other voices in the distance, screaming, moaning, or a mixture of both. There was no doubt that these calls were meant specifically for her. It had been many years since she had heard her name given to her at birth. Since returning from overseas Benzino had even stopped using it. Uhniss-uh, she assumed, equated to Anissa, which was the name her mother had told her when she was younger, that her grandmother gave her at birth. Columbia walked over to the mirror in her bedroom and stared at her reflection. She looked like a stressed out mess. She wondered if that was why Icon hadn’t called her in a few days, which was definitely not normal. Repent your sins was the message. Columbia reflected back to her earlier years. The arguments between her parents would forever echo in those dark recesses of her memory that she chose suppress for good reason.

“Where did you hide the money?” her father would scream at her mother.

“Baby please. That money is for food and clothes for the kids,” her mother would respond with fear in her small voice.

“I’m gonna put it right back. I just need to flip it a couple of times until I get on my feet. I’ll put it right back,” he lied, repeating the lie her mother had heard more times that she cared to count.

“No! not this time. I’m taking them shopping in the morning,” her mother had said fed up with the routine.
